“Why don’t you repeat after me?” she asked, and then started.

“I am a recovering addict.”

My eyes started to tear as I opened my mouth.

“I’m a recovering addict.”

Carol didn’t waver as my voice quavered, betraying me. She just continued. “I’m smart,” I repeated it after her.

“I’m talented,” she continued.

“I’m talented.”

And then she said the affirmation that made me shake. An affirmation that felt all too much like a lie. “I’m special. I’m beautiful. I’m not perfect but I will be happy.”

I slowed down, wiping the tears away from my eyes. And I said the words as slowly as I could. Trying to believe them.

“I’m special?”

Carol nodded. “You are.”

“I’m beautiful?” The statements were coming out like questions. I wasn’t sure if I really was these things that Carol was having me repeat.

“I’m not perfect,” I sighed, making the affirmation my own. “But, I’m on the road to happiness.”

Carol put her arms around me and I sank into her embrace. I may not have been perfect, and I may not have felt beautiful- but I was trying. Trying to recover. Trying to be happy. Trying to live.

Sheer Stillness

It was a moment of sheer stillness.

Between the impact of the crash and the point the victims acknowledged it happened, an ugly calmness flooded their minds. In that tiny interim of time, they couldn’t quite determine if they lived or died. When they slowly opened their eyes, humans were often afraid to look anywhere but straight ahead. Until their vision cleared, victims had trouble understanding if they were safe, injured, or if their condition was serious. It was the point of in-between when pain was not yet recognized and uncertainty flourished.

The exact same feeling occurred when one transitioned.

“Emma,” I whispered, removing the invisible web I cloaked over her prior to the accident. The intricate weave of the net held her in place during impact. She couldn’t see the neon blue glow, but I could, and so could headquarters. Severing my tether and going off grid to tell her the truth about me only worked when I wasn’t using excessive powers.

Crashing into a hundred-year-old oak tree was cause for use of excessive powers. Except, I hadn’t worried about the consequences—at the time.

“Emma,” I called again. This time, I put my hand on her neck. My fingers searched for her pulse. I pressed the tip of my forefinger on her vein and felt the slow, steady thump. Slight pressure increased her pulse to the speed of mine. In seconds, she opened her eyes. “Shhhh. It’s okay. You’re okay.”

She blinked. When she looked forward, all she saw was me. Moments passed as her mind recalibrated her location, the accident, and the escape from the tavern. When she teetered on recalling our conversation and the confusion of me telling her who I was, I knew I had to compel her.

It was the right thing to do.

I stared into her eyes and watched her pupils dilate. In that instant, she was mine. I could make her do anything I wanted—tell her a lie she’d believe as truth, make her forget I cheated, or have her remember our past life together. She was under my control.

“Ben?” Emma whispered. My concentration was broken by the softness of her voice. My chance to compel her was lost.

“Yes, I’m here.”

“What happened—?” Emma tried leaning forward, but the space around us was constricting. Emma’s door was crushed inward, her seat shifted to the middle of the vehicle. The front bench seat was now diagonal and further back than its original position. It rested inches from Emma’s knees. The 1980’s Chevrolet sedan was now a part of the tall oak tree.

“Shhh. We were in an accident. How do you feel?”

Emma looked around, her eyes widening. Panic crossed her mind, and I held her hand.

“It’s okay. Are you hurt?” I asked, although I already knew she was fine. I had protected her, after all. She calmed when I stroked my thumb over her fingers.

She shook her head.

Lights glowed from behind us. Distant voices sounded, and I knew it was a matter of time. I placed my hand on the inside of her wrist. Squeezing gently and only for an instant, I was able to increase Emma’s blood pressure long enough for the alcohol content to dissipate. A blood test would be the first test run at a hospital to verify if intoxication was a factor. It would be devastating in Emma’s mind if her aunt learned she’d been drinking. If only I could do the same to Lucas and Brinn.

A flashlight shone in the rear window, and someone yelled. “Anyone hurt?”

I cleared my throat and called back. “We’re pinned.”

“Aaaahhh.” A moan crept up, like a crescendo, from deep within Brinn’s diaphragm. She extended her hand toward Lucas, but she stopped when she realized the dashboard filled the gap between them. “Lucas?” she croaked.

He didn’t answer.

✯BLOG TOUR:✯ Wait by A.L. Jackson {EXCERPT + GIVEAWAY + REVIEW}

Wait by A.L. Jackson

Release Date: August 23rd 2016
Genres: Romance, New Adult

She is his strength and he is her weakness. And this time he won’t let her go.

Edie Evans is gorgeous.
Sexy.
Kind.
She’s also the definition of off-limits.
But that didn’t stop me from sneaking into her room to comfort her at night.
But guys like me? We destroy everything, so it should have been no surprise when I destroyed us, too.
The night I sent her running, I thought I’d never see her again.
Until I saw her standing like a vision in the crowd.

Austin Stone is dangerous.
Alluring.
Tempting.
He broke my heart and I refused to give him the chance to do it again.
It’s been years since I’ve seen him, and now I can’t do anything but stare at the gorgeous, tattooed man playing onstage. I should run. I know I should. But like a fool, I run straight back to him.
Our desire is overpowering.
Our need unrelenting.

She is my hope.
He is my weakness.
We should have known a passion this intense would burn us right into the ground.

{EXCERPT}

“Shit,” I hissed, bracing myself against the spray of the icy shards pelting from the shower head.

I sucked in a breath, released it between clenched teeth, and forced myself fully under it.

Head dropped and chest heaving as rivers of ice-cold water slicked down my shoulders and back.

But it did nothing to lessen the need. Gave me no sanity or pacification.

Because all I could think about was the girl on the other side of the door.

My girl.

In my bed.

Wearing just her panties and my shirt.

An angel I wanted to dirty.

I always had.

Love was messy like that.

All of my restraint scattered. I gripped my cock. Squeezed the base. My mouth dropped open at the pressure of my hand against my rigid length.

A fool thinking it might be enough.

Shit.

God, I was a bastard, but there was nothing I could do before I was giving in, leaning forward and bracketing my forearm above my head to hold my weight.

Water pounded down on my head and back while I pounded my fist against my dick.

Trying to keep silent when all I wanted was to moan, teeth digging into my bottom lip as I pictured the girl spread out for me.

My breaths were coming short.

Panted and hard.

I gave into imagining the sounds she would make when I finally got to bury myself in her body.

A soft, soft gasp.

I slowed, trying to convince myself that throaty sound was all in my mind.

Just another part of this fantasy.

Until I heard the small thump against the wall.

Shit.

I mashed my eyes closed, like it might hide me.

Conceal the depravity of my actions after I’d just been comforting her hours before.

Heart thrashing, I turned and moved far enough to peek out the small section where the fabric shower curtain hadn’t been drawn fully closed.

It was just a little sliver that left me exposed.

But it was enough. When I peered out, I was looking right at my girl pressed up against the wall.

She stared right back at me.

And I wanted to be horrified, my mind scrambling to conjure every weak apology I could summon. Ready to fucking grovel to keep her from turning and running once again.

Because that’s exactly what I expected her to do.

But her expression…her expression clutched me in the center of the chest and sent what little brain function I had left stampeding south.

Red, lush lips were parted, her hand pressed to her hollow of her throat, pupils dilated so big that her hooded, cerulean eyes appeared black. Needy breaths were coming at me from that sweet mouth like a goddamned freight train.

Desire swelled in the confines of the too-tight room.

Alive.

She pressed deeper into the wall as if it might support her weakened knees. Head rocked back. Thighs squeezing together.

Motherfuck.

My hand shot to the shower wall to steady myself. “Warning you, Edie, you need to get out of here. Right now.”

My Review:

Wait is a story about healing old wounds and starting a new beginning at life and love...

I have not read any of the other books in the Bleeding Stars series, but after reading Wait, I'm definitely going to pick them up. At the beginning of the book we get to meet Austin Stone when he is about to go onstage to perform. Right in the middle of his song he sees the girl that he has always loved, yet what they've both went through separated them until fate brought them back again. Now he needs to figure out what happened to Edie Evans after they've gone their separate ways and figure out how to win her back. It has been years since he last saw her, but his own demons have gotten the best of him over the years and his loss has prevented him from been able to move forward. Wanting to stay away from his family while he recovered from his past, he starts a career of his own using what he knows best, singing.

While his brother and his band are famous singers, and living the life of their dreams in Hollywood, Austin is not ready for that type of fame, and that's what he keeps telling himself. Yet his good looks and mysterious personality is what keep girls coming to him. But there is one girl that he has always had feelings for, but helping her move on from her past has gotten harder than he thought. Meanwhile, Edie Evans has been struggling to move on from her past for the past couple of years, ever since a traumatic experienced changed her life, she has been trying to start new ever since she ran away from home. No one knows what truly happened to her expect for the boy that once stood by her side all those years ago, but wanting to protect him she had to let him go. Now that they've been brought together, she doesn't know if they could ever have a relationship between hurting one another in the end.

I enjoyed reading Wait, the writing in the book was unique, and so were the characters. Though we slowly find out what truly happened to the characters, it still managed to keep me intrigued. The plot has a lot of twist and turns that will definitely keep you reading non stop. As far as the characters go, they are both damaged souls that once they're together they are able to help each other move on. Austin is not only good looking, but he also is sweet and caring. His love for Edie is what had me rooting for them until the very end. Overall, if you're looking for a good romance story filled with a few rock stars and music in general, than I would highly recommend reading this book. :)

✯BLOG TOUR:✯ Bad Judgment by Meghan March {EXCERPT + REVIEW}

Bad Judgment by Meghan March

Release Date: August 22nd 2016
Pages: 350
Genres: Romance, New Adult, Contemporary

A deliciously sexy enemies to lovers standalone coming this summer from USA Today bestselling author Meghan March.

He’s so arrogant.

She’s so self-righteous.

I can’t stand him.

I want her.

He’s a distraction I don’t need.

She’ll say yes eventually because I’m not giving up.

Justine Porter is stuck between a rock and a stripper pole. She lost her law school scholarship, which means she has two choices to keep her life on track: strip for her tuition or tutor the most distractingly sexy guy in her class—the one she’s been turning down for two years straight. It should be an easy choice, but tutoring Ryker Grant could derail her plans to graduate with honors faster than two-for-one night at the Déjà Vu. Then again, topless has never really been her color.

She could take the easy road, just this once . . . but the deal has enough loopholes to trip anyone up.

Who knew they taught bad judgment in law school?

{EXCERPT}

“I’ve got some things I need to say to you, and you’re going to let me.”

Her brown eyes snap up to mine, surprise clear in them. “Why should I?”

“Because you’re nothing if not curious, and you want to know what I have to say.”

She steps backward, and I let my fingertips trail across her skin before they drop away. Justine adjusts the straps of her backpack on her shoulders and tucks Chewbacca into a side pocket.

“You know you want to hear the rare sound of me apologizing, don’t you?”

Justine purses her lips, and all I can think about is the dreams I had all weekend of her staring down at me from a stage while she danced and stripped. My own private show. I’m not going to admit how many times I jacked off to the mental picture. I need the real thing, and I won’t have another shot if she won’t even give me a chance to talk to her.

I don’t know what changes her mind, but she relaxes her posture and relents. “Fine. You’ve got five minutes. This better be good.”

It’s not much, but I’ll take it. I lead the way out of the classroom, slipping out the side door I used to make my unobtrusive entrance. Or at least, it was unobtrusive until I decided to share my strike-out history with the entire class at Professor Turner’s invitation.

Glancing behind me, I’m marginally surprised to see Justine actually following. I head for the third-floor doors to the library, where the private rooms are. This conversation isn’t for public consumption.

The first private room on the right is empty, so I push the door open. Justine trails me inside, and I shrug off my backpack and drop it on one of the four chairs.

She closes the door behind her and leans against it, her arms crossed over her chest. I’m guessing she wouldn’t stand that way if she realized how it draws attention to her chest. I force my eyes back to her face. I’m not about to fuck this up.

“Wow, you must really plan on groveling if you need privacy,” she says, an eyebrow raised in challenge.

“Maybe I just wanted to get you alone.”

She rolls her eyes. “And I’m already getting bored.”

“You love to bust my balls, don’t you?”

“I don’t really like to think about your balls, if you want to know the truth.”

I try on my charming smile, the one that has dropped panties for years. “I’m calling bullshit on that. You’ve thought about me at least once.”

She pushes off the door and turns halfway to reach for the handle. “And if that’s all you wanted to say, then I think we’re done here.”

“Wait.”

I’m shocked when she listens.

Justine rubs her hands over her face, her every move revealing her frustration. “You ask me out for two years, practically blackmail me into a kiss, then you blow me off completely, and now you’re all up in my business again. What the hell do you want from me?”

Her confusion punches me in the gut, making me wish I could tell her why I wasn’t there the morning I promised to help her move. It wasn’t for any reason she thinks.

I stride toward her, pressing one palm against the door beside her head. “I’m not blowing you off, and I haven’t stopped thinking about that night.”

“Then why—”

I can’t give her the explanation she wants, so I try something different.

Lowering my head, I catch the next words out of her mouth on my lips. They’re just as soft as I remember, and I drop my other hand to her hip, drawing her against me. Her fingers curl into the fabric of my T-shirt, almost reluctantly, but she’s not pushing me away.

I take her mouth, my tongue diving between her lips to taste her again—finally, but the pulsing of my dick against the zipper of my jeans forces me to back off. If I don’t, I’ll be laying her out on the table behind us, and that’s not what this is about. At least, not all of what this is about.

With her face flushed and her hair messy from my fingers, Justine shutters her expression. She’s rebuilding her walls brick by brick.

That’s not going to work for me.

“What’s it going to take, Justine?” I remember asking her the same question at the bar.

Her dark eyes fill with confusion. “What’s what going to take?” The words come out defensively.

“With you. To get a second chance. I fucked up once, but doesn’t everyone deserve another shot?”

My Review:

Not having read any other books by the author before, I was completely impressed with the story and the characters. Right from the very beginning we get to meet Justine, an struggling college student who has been working her way trough law school after all the hardships that she'd suffered growing up. While not living in the best conditions, she is proud of what she has accomplished thus far. But when the school's funds get cut short, they have to find a way to finance everything else, and the committee makes the decisions to revoke the scholarships of those that are not paying for the school. This completely devastates Justine, because she has no other way to pay, and an unlikely source comes to her rescue only to want something in return. One of the professors that she has offers her a job as his son's tutor in return he would pay her tuition until he knows that his son, Ryker is back on track on his studies. Now it all would have been fine with Justine, but Ryker happens to be the biggest player at her college, and getting him to stay concentrated is going to be harder than she thought.

Ryker has always liked Justine, but after asking her out for the last couple of years, her answer was always no. He slowly becomes persistent in hopes that she'll say yes to him one day, but when he makes a bet with her everything starts to change. Now he has to find a way to get her to accept what they have and make it last. Through ups and downs, both characters have to face their pasts in order to move on, and as they spend more time together, they slowly start figure out that they might just be perfect for one another.

All in all, I really enjoyed reading Bad Judgment, the story had me reading until the very end. I could not stop reading it, and it's all because of the undeniable chemistry that the characters have that will leave wanting for more. Justine is brave, smart, and kind. She knows what she wants, and is not afraid to get it. After what she went through growing it's evident that her goal is to get a career and make a name for herself. On the other hand, Ryker is handsome, sweet and caring. He has also dealt with a lot of emotional struggles growing up, but his looks have kept him busy in school. Not only is he popular, but having his dad work as a professor in the school has its perks. Now that they both have to deal with their pasts, they have to make a decision of whether or not they can be together or not. Filled with twist and turns, Bad Judgment will leave you swooning for the characters and the lovely ending. ;)
