✯BOOK BLITZ✯: White Raven by J.L. Weil {EXCERPT + GIVEAWAY!}

White Raven by J.L. Weil

Release Date: March 27th 2015
Series: Raven #1
Genres: Paranormal Romance, Young Adult

DREADFUL LIES.
UNEXPECTED LOVE.
IMPOSSIBLE TRUTH.

It only took one heartbeat to change my life—one chilling phone call in the middle of the night.

And then, as if my life didn’t already suck, my dad sends my brother and me to some idyllic island for the summer to live with a grandma we never met. WTH. Naturally, I rebel. In the end, I find myself shipped off to Raven Hallow…and bored to tears.

Until I get an eyeful of the mind-bendingly gorgeous Zane Hunter. The dark-hair cutie makes my pulse go bonkers, and I think, maybe this might not be so bad after all. Six feet of swoon inducing looks, with a hint of Celtic charm in his voice, he was the type of guy that left a string of broken hearts in his wake. And I had all the heartbreak I could handle.

Yet, there is something uncanny, almost supernatural about Zane, and it’s not just his devastating smirk. No matter how much distance I put between us, Raven Hallow isn’t big enough, and the sparking tension between is undeniable. Of course, the one person I want to avoid becomes my salvation.

My past comes back to terrorize me. Someone wants me dead, and the closer I get to the truth, the more I realize my whole life is a lie. I am no longer sure what is more frightening—the attempts on my life or the guy whose heart and soul are synchronized with mine.

TJ and Rose kept the conversation rolling as I gave the appropriate one-word responses or a head nod. I didn’t have much of an appetite, mostly picking at my chicken Caesar salad and gazing out at the ocean, until…

His hair was black as a wintry night, eyes icy blue as a gypsy’s heart. He had a lazy saunter about him and a glint of humor twinkling in those heart-melting eyes. There was nothing loose about his body, muscles bunching as he tethered a boat to the dock. I twiddled the straw, staring brazenly.

Good God. I wanted to have his babies. Not now, but most definitely someday.

And just like that, my summer got a billion times hotter…and interesting—way more interesting. I bit my lip, mulling over how I was going to accidently fall into his pants. Um—I mean path or even his lap would do, anything to get that one’s attention.

Drool hit the table in a mad case of fangirl, and I didn’t even know his name.

As if he sensed he was being slobbered over, his eyes scraped over me, and I held my breath. Holy hot tamales. An electric bolt of…lust maybe, I really didn’t know what it was, but it coiled through my body, making me shudder. A flicker of an unidentified emotion crossed his face, right before a secret smile appeared on his lips. Oh man, don’t get me started on his lips.

Elbows propped on the table, I rested my head on the edge of my palms, continually gazing and getting lost in the depths of his eyes. He hypnotized me. I followed his movements, my eyes glued to him. Then one of my elbows slipped off the table in classic Piper form, and down I went. I caught myself just before my chin whacked a corner of the patio table.
Only me.

Mortified, I closed my eyes.

TJ laughed. “Smooth, Pipe. I think you made a lasting impression.”

REVIEW: Stupid Boy by Cindy Miles

Stupid Boy
by Cindy Miles
Release Date: February 17th 2015 by TKA Distribution
Series: Stupid in Love #2
Genre: Romance, New Adult
Pages: 332
View/Purchase: Goodreads, Amazon, B&N
Author's Links: Website, Goodreads, Twitter, Facebook

From Cindy Miles, bestselling new adult author of STUPID GIRL, comes the next installment of her blockbuster Stupid in Love series – STUPID BOY.

Brax Jenkins and Olivia Beaumont are the most envied couple at Winston University—but the so-called “virginity dare,” orchestrated by Brax’s old fraternity, almost tore them apart. Now, a new dare is taking shape, and it’s sure to set emotions ablaze--more than ever before.

Winston’s “It Girl” Harper Belle isn’t just president of the Deltas--she’s also a master at keeping her ugly past a secret. So, when the Kappas’ dare hits closer to home for her more than anyone realizes, she devises a competition of her own as payback. Three sorority sisters will seek out a notorious womanizer on campus and--unbeknownst their “mark”--secretly train him to be the perfect boyfriend. Always up for a challenge, Harper targets the biggest player she can find: Brax’s wickedly handsome foster brother Kane McCarthy.

But, Harper discovers there’s much more to Kane than girls, games, and partying. His easy smile belies the quiet, old soul reflected in his deep brown eyes. All it takes is one night, one secret laid bare, and one kiss from Kane to shift Harper’s world on its axis. Suddenly, the girl who’s always walked a straight and narrow path can’t think of anything else except losing control.

My Review:

Stupid Boy follows the journey Harper Belle and Kane McCarthy, two individuals who by chance get a second chance at life and love.

Stupid Boy is the second book in the Stupid in Love series by Cindi Miles, and having read the first book, I knew that it was not going to disappoint. The book follows up on what had transpired in Stupid Girl (book #1), with a whole new twist and different characters. This time, the story follows Harper Belle, president of the Deltas and a well known girl at Winston University. Apart from being the “It Girl” at her school, she is not what she seems to be. On the exterior, she is the studious girl and popular among her friends. But on the inside she has secrets that she can't tell anyone else, secrets that have taken a hold on her for a very long time. Now, she is determined to end the so-called “virginity dare,” that has brought a lot of chaos to the school and her sorority. With that said, she devises a plan to get back at the Kappas', and end the dare for good. She is going to seek out a notorious womanizer on campus and make him the perfect boyfriend, but she wasn't expecting to stumbled upon the good-looking Kane McCarthy, Brax's foster brother. After Brax participated in the last “virginity dare,” Kane becomes the perfect target to change, but the more she spend time with him, the more she realizes that her soul is just as broken as his, and that maybe he is the one she has been waiting for so long.

Kane McCarthy is not like his foster brother, instead he is the carefree brother that one would consider “the bad boy,” and he is advised by everyone to stay away from Harper Belle before he corrupts her. But the more he is told to stay away from the girl that caught his eyes the minute they met, the more he is intrigued to get to know her. He knows in his heart, that Harper is not the “It Girl,” that everyone knows, after all he has been through a lot in his life, and he can sense another lost soul around. So when they start to spend time together, he finds himself telling her secrets that even Brax doesn't know about his past, and he can't seem to get enough.

I really enjoyed reading Stupid Boy, the characters were just as relatable as the ones in the first book (Stupid Girl), and I liked their background stories. Both characters have suffered a lot in their lives, and together they seem to complete each other. The story was a page-turner, and well-written. Cindi Miles does a great job keeping the story entertaining, and romantic. I would highly recommend reading Stupid Girl since the main characters from the first book do appear in this book, but they are just secondary characters. Overall, I would suggest reading Stupid Boy, you would not regret it. :)

Under the Influence by LB Simmons

Release Date: May 11th 2015
Genres: New Adult, Romance, Contemporary

Dalton,

I loved you once. A love I thought irrevocable. A love I mistakenly believed could transcend both time and circumstance. Under the influence of my dimwitted, naïve, traitorous heart, I became intoxicated with what I now know was simply a figment of my self-indulgent imagination. So drunk on the feeling, I couldn’t see what was right in front of my face. So foolishly enamored, I blindly followed my heart into the depths of an emotion that would ravage me.

Years later, I know now what I wish I knew then. I am stronger. Smarter. Tougher. I will not allow myself to be broken again.

I loved you.

I raged for you.

I wept for you.

And now, I’m letting you go.

Author’s Note: Under the Influence is the journey of two childhood friends that spans the course of five pivotal years in their lives. It is a story about their discovery of true friendship as it blossoms into first love, their experience of crucial sacrifice and ultimate betrayal, and their endurance of agonizing heartbreak on the way to finding lasting redemption.

Chapter 1
Dalton
I am not a good person.

And I don’t pretend to be.

There may have been hope for me at one point but now, as I stare back at the hardened face and vacant eyes in front of me, there’s no denying the truth. All hope for me was lost years ago, stripped clean from my mind as they broke me. The life I’m indebted to now is one packed with corruption and polluted with lies.

I try to breathe in deeply as I rinse the freshly spilled blood from my hands, but the bitter pang of disappointment begins to compress my entire chest. It seeps along the previously etched grooves that line it, burning the hollow channels that were created with each punch to my stomach and blow to my ribs.

I rarely have these moments of weakness, when I wish I hadn’t allowed myself to be drawn into the darkened path that is this life. But right now, I find myself wishing that I had been strong enough to brave my childhood on my own. That I had been able to fend off the monsters that lurked in dark rooms and reeked of alcohol, able to protect myself from the multitude of broken bones and black eyes inflicted by the hands of those who were supposed to fucking protect me.

But I wasn’t. And now I’m stuck, hopelessly adhered to a life in which I have chosen to forgo conscience for security.

Little did I know the day I met Darius Roe, I would be making a deal with the devil. That I would be forever bound to a life from which there is no escape.

Although I started out as his lackey, I grew quicklyboth physically and within the hierarchy of his organizationto become his weapon. Not only his muscle, but a tool which has many uses. His most prized possession.

And now here I am at eighteen years of age, long since graduated from errand-boy. I watch the familiar streaks of someone elses blood swirling around yet another porcelain sink. Someone who also made a deal with the devil but didnt deliver on his end.
I always deliver.

After drying my hands, I curl my fingers over the lip of the sink and place my palms flat on the cool ceramic surface, silently watching the reflection in the mirror. Cold, dead eyes stare back at me. Not a spark of life left in them.

Not anymore.

In fact, the only bit of humanity I permit myself is that of Spencer Locke. Shes the one thing, the one person whose mere presence provides some sort of sense of relief from the constant feeling of asphyxiation that encompasses me.

She is my reprieve.

My air.

Spencer Locke is the one slice of happy I have in this shit pie I call life. Darius Roe is a ruthless motherfucker.

The two will never cross paths.

I would, with absolutely no hesitation, lay down my life to make sure that never happens. Spencer’s safety has been and will always be my concern—no, my priority. And in order to assure that safety remains, she must never know the real me. The cold, calculated, hardened criminal that I am. She will only know the Dalton Greer I permit her to know.

Just like everyone else that I come into contact with.

To Rat, I’m the entertaining best friend. To Spencer, I’m the overprotective big brother. And to Darius, I’m the lethal weapon.

None of them truly know me.

Because the truth is, theres nothing more frightening in my world than those who know youwho really know you. The ones who know your deepest, darkest secrets. The ones who know what youre going to do before you do it. The ones who know not only what buttons to push when they seek your attention, but also the ones that can be used to completely incapacitate you.

They can be your strength.

But they can also be your weakness.

And just as a chameleon changes color to blend for protection, I’ve learned to evolve into the person I need to be in order to survive the situation at hand, all while keeping people at arm’s length.

Yet sometimes I cant help but wonder what my true colors would have been had I not been subjected to this life. I question what it would be like to just let someone in, to tell them all of your unforgivable truths and discover they still love you in return.

I find myself utterly fascinated, awe-struck even, that there are people actually capable of truly loving someone without wondering when and how they will be betrayed. However, the knowledge of their existence also saddens me because the cold reality is, I will never know that type of love. I will never know the freedom to just be with someone, without pretense or fabrication, without the endless lies and untruths.

Maybe that’s why I keep holding onto Spencer when I know I shouldn’t. When all my instincts scream for me to let her go, to cut those ties and just let her be.

I cant.

I’m too selfish.

Therefore, I will plaster on my over-protective, big-brother face so that I can see her again, just to get my fix on the relief she provides. And in turn, I will continue the lies.

I will continue telling myself the only reason I insist on my frequent visitation is because I want to see to her protection.

I will continue convincing myself the things I say to her are merely pretenses which accompany my façade.

But in this rare moment, I will also concede that like a moth to a flame, I’m drawn to her.
To her innocence.

To her kindness.

To her ability to love…

To all the things I wish I was capable of but have sacrificed in order to survive.

Because just seeing her demonstrate those capabilities with me and willingly share them with others, the knowledge that the ability to do so actually exists in a world outside of mine somehow frees meno matter how temporarilyfrom the chains that bind me here, in this suffocating place.

Yes, Spencer Locke is indeed my air.

I just hope the immorality I’ve chosen to bury deep within my soul doesn’t one day pollute her very essence.

Review:

"I need to say I love you. But what I mean is I love you--in a way that defies definition and exists only in a world that you and I are in."

I am really enjoying this mini novella series so far! I was skeptical at first, when I read the first novella, but as I keep reading the more intrigued I get by the characters and their story. Before I begin with my review, just know that you will need to read the first two novellas in order to keep up with the story. I promise that it gets better, so I would just recommend reading them all at once.

Only For Us starts where we left off in the last novella, Only For Her, in that Grayson finds out that he is a father of an adorable little girl. Now he need to come to terms with what he needs to do in order to keep his family together. Having grown up in a poor family environment, he is determined to do things differently with his own family, now that he is back for good. For a while, Emma had to worry about raising her daughter along, but now that Grayson is back, she needs to figure out how she is going to tell her daughter that her father is alive and ready to move in at any second.

The two face difficult challenges ahead, but Grayson immediately wants to settle down, and that requires finding a job. Now with a task ahead, he is willing to put the skills that he learned from his military experience to the test, he just hopes that Emma supports him. Whereas, Emma finds herself in the situation of wanting to do a lot of things at once. She wants to finish school, and continue working at her job, she just hopes that Grayson understands why she had to get the job that she currently has without disappointing him. It is clear that both of the characters have been hiding secrets from one other, and the way everything is progressing, I wonder how things are going to turn up at the end. This novella in particular focused on the struggles that they both face now as adults, neither of them is a teenage anymore, and they have to figure out what is best for their daughter. All in all, I enjoyed this novella in particular, it has the perfect cliffhanger that makes me really excited to find out what is going to happen next. I would definitely recommend it, it's sweet, short, and full of unexpected events that keeps you at the edge of your seat wanting to know more. :)
