Review: No Ordinary Bloke by Mary Whitney

No Ordinary Bloke
by Mary Whitney
Released Date: Published August 2014
Pages: ebook
View/Purchase: Goodreads, Amazon,

I’m not a philosophical kind of bloke, but I know something about luck. A childhood on the wrong side of advantage will teach you that. It’s all a matter of chance. It’s both your circumstances and the chances you take. So I've always been a gambler and a ladies man — they love me and I love them. Now I've found one like no other — an American, Allison Wright. When I met her, the fates were on my side, but too soon I learned the odds were against me.

My Review:

Not having read any other books by Mary Whitney before I wasn't sure what to expect before reading No Ordinary Bloke, needless to say the book did not disappoint at all. I found myself completely liking the story and the characters (one character in particular). ;)

David has it all, he successful, charming, and British (which was a bonus for me). The way he carried himself throughout the story made made it that much more appealing and enjoyable to read. Behind his overprotective persona, David is sweet and romantic. A gambler in his work and a ladies man, he has secrets of his own that not a lot of people know about. But when a mysterious redhead caches his attention at an airport, he can't deny the feelings that he gets when he first sees her and the growing feelings when he gets to truly get to know her.

Allison Wright escaped Iowa when she got the chance to do something for herself. Having left everything behind, she has done well for herself working in Human Resources at a company in New York. While at the airport heading to Singapore, little did she know that her life was going to change after meeting the mysterious men that has suddenly expressed an interest in her.

Both of the characters have their own struggles in the story, but it's all in David's P.O.V. It was interesting to read about his family and the past that he has come to hate so much. There were times when I felt that Allison's personality made it difficult for David to prove himself to her. I guess because the story is in his point-of-view that I didn't understand the decisions that Allison made throughout the story. Nevertheless, I enjoyed reading the scenes between David and his baby niece, it made him that much more likable for me. I liked the overall change in David at the end of the story, his development as a character got resolved, although I would have liked the very end to be different. Overall, the story was well thought out and I highly recommend it. I will definitely be on the look out for more books by Mary Whitney.
